This course (4th semester, 6 ECTS) analyzes the role of the state in the economy, the size of public expenditures/revenues, and the performance of the public sector. It covers Public Economics tools (positive/normative analysis, welfare economics), market failures (public goods, externalities), state reactions (taxes, subsidies), and redistributive policies. It examines the effect of taxation on income distribution and efficiency (excess burden, optimal taxation). The goal is to develop critical thinking and data analysis skills. Assessment is via a 100% written exam, with a bonus possibility from optional assignments.
